Green Creatures in Green Ponds

In Spring the color green spreads across Toronto. Green grass. Green shrubbery. Green leaves on all the trees:

Leaves

New leaves unfurl. They are a lighter more yellow green against the older leaves.

Leaves

Green covers the ponds of High Park, of Corktown Common, of Evergreen Brickworks, and ponds all over Toronto.

Ponds

Frogs and toads and turtles wake up.  After hibernating all winter long in the pond’s muddy floor they feel the warmth of spring and wake up from their long sleep.

Frog

The green pond creatures swim to pond surfaces all over Toronto. They float quietly in the green water. Or they hop onto lily pads.

Frog

Or they clamber out of the water and sit on logs or stones or on a pond's muddy edge.

Toad

Have you seen any frogs or toads or turtles this spring? Where do you go to find them?
